Managing Change for an Energy-Service Leader’s ERP Transition

ISG collaborates with an IT-provider partner to create and execute a comprehensive organizational change management (OCM) program for a multinational energy-services company to implement new ERP software in 10 countries.

A pioneer in global energy services needed to introduce new enterprise resource planning (ERP) software to its organization across 10 countries. One of the company’s technology providers – a key ISG partner – brought in ISG to make sure employees were prepared to properly use the new JD Edwards software. About 900 people would be directly affected, with ripple effects for the firm’s thousands of other workers.

ISG utilized OCM templates and documents customized for the company to help ensure a smooth transition. The focus included understanding the stakeholders and their needs, as well as developing communications and training.

The ISG team performed assessments of the stakeholders, the change impacts to be expected, and the company’s change readiness and communications needs. We then delivered a change-management roadmap, a stakeholder-engagement plan and an analysis of the company’s specific training needs. Closer to the transition go-live date, ISG led awareness surveys and communications to ready employees for the move to the new software.

ISG worked with the technical team to deploy a training program and provide many deliverables to aid change adoption. ISG encouraged the use of rewards and recognition to enhance stakeholders’ experience. Post-launch surveys enabled the company to measure success and understand “lessons learned” for future efforts.
